My BC 246T just started acting up today. When I got home, it was working fine, then about 10 min. later it stopped talking (I didn't notice it because I was doing stuff) then around 30 min. later I checked it because I thought it was odd that it wasn't talking since I live in Houston. Anyways, I found out that it was recieving signals but no sound was comeing through the scanner's speaker (I haven't tried an external speaker yet, will later on when I get a holt of one). So I was eating and didn't really act on it yet and then it started talking about a min. later. When it got to conventional it would only talk for a few seconds and then continue scanning but on trunking it would "say" the whole transmission. Then it just stopped talking altogether like before. Anyone have any ideas what it could be? Like I said I will try an external speaker when I can get one. Also right now I have it turned off and I will turn it back on and see if that fixes it. UPMan do you have any ideas?

Turning it off and on didn't help. To clarify, all of the stuff that I was describing in the other post was happening in scan mode. If I have it in manual mode on a conventional channel, it recieves and (what is another word for "puts it through the scanner" or "says"?) the whole thing. I think I may be sending my scanner into Uniden to be repaired. Would it still be under warrantee? I haven't done anything to it to make it do this.
Before bundling it up for a trip back to home base, there are a couple of things I'd try if I were you. None may help, but won't hurt to try.
First, I'd try reloading the latest firmware (or the one before that) and see if there is any difference in operation. It's at least possible that a voltage surge corrupted the firmware in the scanner.
Second, try a freshly charged pair of batteries (or flip the switch to alkalines & try a pair of those). Maybe one of the cells is marginal, & the voltage variation is driving the scanner crazy.
Your other idea, trying an external speaker (or an earphone) could also help determine if the fault lies in the audio output or the main circuit itself.
If none of that works, maybe a reset. Turn it off, then hold down 2, 9, & the "Hold" key & power it on to reset the scanner. That will wipe out the programming, so reload (hopefully you've got software?) then see if there is any difference.
If still no help, then probably a trip back to Uniden looks likely. It's got a year's warranty, though warranty service terms ask for a proof of purchase.

Did you check the obvious things, like the squelch setting, etc?
It works fine now. I don't know what happened. Thanks for all of the replies. I am happy as long as my BC 246T works!
