BC 246T question

Hello, novice to the world of radio scanning and I just have a few questions. I bought a BC246T that is much smarter than I am. I read the manual, forums, programing software (ARC246) and I still haven't found my answers.

1st Question:
During any radio transmission, it will be solid for about 3 - 4seconds then go silent for 1sec then solid for 3-4seconds, then silent, then solid, etc.....
How do I stop this? I don't have my priority channels programmed.

2nd Question. Reception, is sub-par to many of my other scanners and radios. I'm a volunteer Firefighter and my Motorola Mintor V has better reception. Would a better antenna help me out? if so which one?

2: The included antenna works moderately across all bands, but isn't very "hot" for any particular band (it isn't actually possible to make a rubber duck antenna that has gain on all bands). Likely your Minitor V has an antenna specifically designed and tuned for the frequency band used by your system, which would result in better reception.

sounds like you might have Pri chan turned on or close call. make sure to have PRI turned off and all groups and close call is set to DND or off then see if the issue is resolved.

I recently dropped mt scanner and it hit my sidewalk and broke the screen. I use Butel software to configure and it still works for virtual display on the pc. tough little scanner

update to my last post. i sent my BC246t in for repair. fingers crossed they are going to fix it with the broken scracked screen and scraed case. again from my last post the scanner still worked thrue my butel software. odd but probably good for me when i sent it into uniden.
