Depending on the dealer, the 246 may be $25 to $40 cheaper than a 330. It's also a much smaller "pocket friendly" size, fits easily in a shirt or jacket pocket. The 330 is the same case size as a 396, and won't go in a shirt pocket (not my shirts anyway), and only slip in a heavier coat pocket.

I own both. The 330, in my opinion, is more sensitive on comparable frequency bands, using identical antennas. The 330 also does mil-air, and has some additional frequency coverage the 246 does not have. However, I don't use all of the extended frequency coverage on the 330 (such as the shortwave), and I did not buy it for the NASCAR logo or racing system usage. Both scanners do what they are designed to do. Both scanners show a listed capacity of 2500 channels, but that depends on the amount of detail entered on your systems. I've seen other posts that the 246's practical limit is more like 1600 channels, while the 330 can more nearly approach the 2500 threshold. I've never come close to maxing either out.

If you have no interest in mil-air, or the other extended frequencies, of the 330, or the smaller size is the key factor, then get the 246 & the correct antenna for your main scanning interest. Otherwise, shop for a better deal on a 330.`

The BC246T is a fine, but basic scanner. The BR330T is a fine and more deluxe scanner. The biggest drawback to the BC246T is that the keyboard is not backlit. The BR330T keyboard is backlit and also the BR330T has many of the features of the BCD396T (except digital). As an example, the BR330T has a signal strength meter (minimal really) and a battery voltage indicator. The BR330T also has the Fire Tone Out feature (which is not useful to me, but is to some).

The bottom line is buy the BR330T is it is within your budget, but buy the BC246T if you can't afford the BR330T. I bought both, and use both every day.

I think the 330T has better audio as in its much louder; the 246 doesn't have much volume. I like the design of the 246; but think the 330 looks nicer next to my 396 its fraternal twin.
