    Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value.     The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

    For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

BC-296 - APCO digital - base antenna opinions

Looking for any opinions on a good base station
antenna that is BEST suited for reception of APCO
digital signals in the Baltimore area. I'm located
south of BWI airport in AA County and my BC-296
has problems getting good reception of both Blatimore
City and Howard County digital systems.... I can hear
them but the signal is fairly weak and therefore the
voice processing is poor most of the time. I'm hoping
a good base antenna will help (over the Radio Shack
800Mhz rubber duck I'm using now)... I've been looking
around but I don't want to waste my time and money
ordering a $100 antenna only to find that the reception
isn't any better after setting it up...

Any ideas?

HGet a good antenna for the BAND and EMNVIRONMENT.

USe the shortest run of the best line you can afford.

Digital, APCO (A missnomer, since P25 is no longer under APCO control), or any other descriptions of the modulation type do not affect the type of antenna system.

Here is one answer. MAXRAD 800MHz 23" dual open coil 5db gain. Part # B2-2067. 1/4 wave over 1/2 wave over 1/4 wave. Can be mounted on an NMO Base adp. Also receives OK on VHF but WILL NOT on UHF.
