Hi:
Does anyone know why my BC-785 stops on a Trunked Channel and stays there? Even if Priority is on, it will just stop on a Trunked channel and not scan? If I hit scan, it will scan 1 time around the channels then stop on a trunked channel that has no communications? Also I live in the San Jose Calif. area and want to listen to Trunked Fire in ALCO, SF, etc.

Likely as not this is a programming issue. It sounds very much like the frequencies were not entered in a TRUNK mode. I don't have a 785, but I believe you must first select the bank in which to put the freqs and decide what kind of system it is. 73 Mike

Are you in an ID search mode or do you have TGIDs entered and trying only to scan those.

It could be you have a data terminal talk group that it is stopping on.

So to help you verify it, is the scanner stopping on the same frequency (or one of the known control channel frequencies) all the time or is it stopping on a specific TGID?

If it is a specific frequency, then I would double check to make sure the system is in fact responding to being a trunked system. If it is a talk group, I'd lock that one out and see what happens.

When scanner is stopped on this channel:
1. what does top line on display indicate?
2. press TRUNK - what does top line indicate?

I have tgid's in memory scan. It does stop on a certain channel in each scan bank? I will lock them out next time and see what happens. Also maybe I have the wrong ID's? I am using "Plan 2" 800 Trunk? Any suggestions?

Thanks

I am guessing that the 785 is similar to the 780 as far as trunking. If you put in only CC's, the mode has to be set in the menu to CC only. Otherwise, the scanner will see it as just another conventional channel. Do you see any TGID's come up? You might not have it in the frequency range for the CC's. I used to have this problem with the 780 that I owned. Check in the manual for the correct way to enter the type of 800Mhz system.

I don't see an answer to these two questions in post #5. They could help me help you.

You know what, I am going to toss this scanner in the garbage! It does not display TGID's and sometimes it stops on a 800 Mhz trunked channel but displays my channel 1 priority channel which is 155.025? Dont buy a BC785 to monitor Trunked! It is no good. Buy the GRE 600 thats the best!
Thanks for the help guys, but I think it's the scanner not the user!!

I have the 785D (minus the p25) card. I will admit the scanner is a pain to program trunked systems but once my friend did it up for me (from the keypad, no less) the radio seems to trunk fine for the few times I do use it. I havent attempted to scan talkgroups and conventional frequencies at the same time (assuming this can be done) so this radio works pretty well for me.

It does, on occasion drop the pl/dpl settings on some channels. Not sure why, but I'm sure someone here does.

Hopefully my first post here wasnt a complete waste. :)

You're wrong. Its the user not the scanner. Many people own this scanner, myself included and I monitor trunked and conventional freqs just fine on it. TGIds, alpha tags and all. Several people have offered to help you but you refuse to help them help you, so, where might this garbage can be so that I can come and scoop up this scanner?

785 problem

Just a though, but what is the delay settings for that frequency and or trunk system?
Any chance either of them are set on #5:Infinite?
If so,try changing the setting to #1:None
I've had an 785 since they came on the market and have never had issues with it.
The scanner will briefly stop on the cc channel then move on, it's a normal function.
At least,with mine.
I recently purchased a 796 off e-bay and it performs the same way.
