BC-785D Tone Squelch Question

How do I remove a CTCSS or DCS tone from a particular frequency (or frequencies) and still keep others I have programmed in in operation? The manual is pretty vague about it, and I used the option where in Tone Search if it stops & blinks on the frequency you just press 'E' to enter it.
So, how do I clear it (the CTCSS or DCS)? Do I reprogram the frequency or what?

Press "Hold", enter the channel you want to remove the tone from, and press "Hold" again. Then press "Enter".

On the screen you will see:
1 CTCSS
2 DCS
3 OFF

Turn the VFO / Select knob (bottom knob on left hand side) to the right to highlight "Off". Press "Enter".

That's it. You have turned off the CTCSS / DCS function for the frequency in that channel. It will now receive all agencies that transmit on that frequency that are within receiving range of your scanner.

I've also discovered the 785D has another little trick to it about locking out/restoring frequencies From what I gather you're supposed to be able to unlock freq.'s in one Bank, & leave others locked out: For example say there are 5 freq.'s locked out in Bank One, an 5 in Bank 2 and you just want to restore those in #1 ONLY.
I've found out that either you can't, or the Manual is vague on this function because when I try the "Hold the L/O button down till you hear 2 Beeps" thing, ALL 10 CHANNELS are UNLOCKED.

It's easier just to lock or unlock them one at a time, at least that's the way I do it when I occassionally lock out a channel. There may be a way to do all of them at once, I really don't know, but why hassle yourself with it if you're having a problem.

Push "Hold"
Enter the channel number
Push "Hold" again
Push the L/O key (Don't hold it, just push and release)

It works fine that way.

If you want to lock out an entire bank just push the bank number only (nothing else) while the scanner is in the scan mode. After you do it you will notice that number is missing from the bank numbers on your screen when it is scanning. To restore it, just push the number again and you're back in business.

Think that's what I'll wind up doing -- just L/O entire Bank, or lock / unlock a particular freq when needed.
Manual could've been a bit clearer on how to do an entire Bank without affecting others, though.

The manual stinks and I've heard others say the same thing. Just a word of advice, when you lock something out, make a note of it to remind yourself of what you did. Enjoy your scanner and the hobby. :lol:
