my questions is it possible to change memory such as tg ids from 100 to 100+, my county has 156 tg just for fire side and pd has even more, my reasoning for this so that i can have it set per area.

It can be done with computer software where the computer displays the TG ID insted of the radio, but I don't know of any available at this time.

Somewhere in this room. Right now, you're very col
What type of system?

If it's an EDACS system, you can use AFS to hold a bajillion of 'em.

For example, let's say you want to monitor these talkgroups:

01-011 to 01-019

If you store 01-01- as a talkgroup ID you'll catch all 9 of these under just one channel entry. You can even store 01---- as a talkgroup and get all talkgroups that start with 01- with just one channel. It's a really cool feature!

Unfortunately, there's no similar option for Moto systems. :( That'd be sweet if it there was (here our fire dept digital simulcast TGID's are all 17xx. - I could catch them all in one channel which would be nice.)

Another option might be to use Trunker or Unitrunker... then you can monitor hundreds of talkgroups if you wish, but only while tethered to your computer. Not sure if Unitrunker follows voice traffic yet but I think Trunker can now use just one scanner - if not it would be an easy mod to the source code.... ahh now I'm wandering... nevermind. ;)

Actually there is a way to do it on a motorola system (only for type 2 systems). What you need to do is setup the system as a type one, and depending on which size code you use, you will be able to hear all the talkgroups in a particular range. When the NJ State Police was a hybrid system, (Size S-13 at Blocks 0 & 4), you could hear the type 2 talkgroups on 000-13 and 400-12.

Both IDTracker (which is free) and the Radio Manager 2004/Trunk Manager (you would need both if you go this way) could do this. In both cases, the lookups are done with dedicated PC files, not scan lists as defined in the radio.

You can find both of these packages linked here;

BC-796 Reallocating memory

First, thanks for all the responses,
The systems is Motorola, Type 2, Smartzone, uhf system, i'm currently using unitrunker, it's a very good program, but i would like to set the796 so that bank one, has 11 sets of 16 tgs. All motorola radio used in the county are 16 channls and an unknown number of banks, I am only looking to change the memory in the radio. I'm not even sure that it is possible to do. The unitrunker radio that is used has not digital software or hardware(Pro-2067)

Here is the link to the system that I'm monitoring with unitrunker and BC-796:

If you're asking about increasing the memory capacity of the radio, then no, it's not possible, not without changing some internal parts.

I guess that i'm not stating my question correctly:
you know that the 996 has banks that you set from scratch, all i'm looking to do is change bank one from 100 freq channels and only use 15 from the bank and use the other 85 for tg's so that the quantity would be 185 tg and only 15 freq channels. is that a little more clearer

The memory configuration of the BC796D (as well as any other banked scanner) cannot be changed. IIWII.

Again, as previously stated, what you wish to do is NOT POSSIBLE using the BC796D. The Banks are 100 Channels FIXED. TG's per Bank are 100 FIXED. The BC796D has no Dynamic Memory Structure. Simply program 2 banks for the 185 TG's you wish to program.

You cannot make Channels or TG's per bank any size you wish.
