BC 796D Firmware Update Question

I have a BC 796D with Firmware version 3.21. Should I apply the Uniden BCi96D Update program for Ver 1.2 and BC796D Update program for Ver 3.25? Thanks.

I don't see why not....I cannot recall the firmware version present on 2 of my Unidens before updating (3.21 sounds vaguely familiar)......but the process is a snap. Upgrades and instructions are on the Uniden.com site.....very straightforward. Interestingly, if you try to update a Uniden that does not require it, you'll simply get a prompt on the computer saying that it isn't necessary. Whole process takes only a few minutes.

I was asking because the way it is written on Uniden's web site it sounds like if you have version 3.25 this update is for version 3.35 only. On other sites if you upgrade something like a computer program they say update older program to the most current version X.XX .

Hmmm....I am not aware of a version 3.35. News to me. Maybe that's just now coming out of the factory? Where did you see a reference to that? As far as I know, the most recent version is 3.25.

When I run the update software, it tells me to hold down L/O and "6" and then apply DC power to the radio. I do this but nothing happens with the power switch on or off. I have successfully updated the firmware on my 396T and it went without a hitch.

What in the heck am I doing wrong????????

Before starting the update software:

With the scanner power off, press both the "L/O" and "6" button at the same then turn on the power.

The display should stay blank, but the program will show if the update is working correctly.

OK, thanks. There is a display on the screen of the 396T when you apply a firmware update. Let me try it again.

Still no luck. Get the host of error messages. I know the serial port on the computer works because I have used it to update the 396T. They couldn't make this any harder if they tried.

To perform Firmware Update of BC796D, press L/O + 6 + SCAN, then turn Power on unit. The Display's Backlight will remain lit while update is performed. Btw, the latest Firmware is v3.29.
