Question will the scanner pickup a P25 digital system if you had the frequencies programmed with a CTCSS tone or would this prevent the P25 signal from getting through to the scanner. Thanks

If I remember correctly, one of the glitches with the 796D is that the CTCSS has frequency priority. So, I would say "no" to your question. You might just remove the CTCSS, unless you are inundated with other comms, etc. This way you will receive both analog and digital transmissions.

Correct, if you program a CTCSS or DCS tone on a freq and set the squelch mode to Tone SQ, you can/will block out a P25 transmission.
