BC/AB scanning laws

Hello all,

I will be visiting Vancouver and the Rockies in May and would like to bring my BC246T with me, can anyone tell me something about whether there will be laws concerning scanning in both province?

As far as I know there are no laws regarding scanners in Alberta. I've had and used scanners since before I moved here in 1990, and have never had an issue with anyone.

In fact, the RCMP (police) in my area occasionally broadcast things to the effect of: "anyone out there in scanner land with info on ___ please call me at the office".. and they get responses!

I'll leave the answer regarding BC to someone more knowledgable about that province.

Any specific areas in the Rockies/Alberta you'll be visiting?

While still at planning stage, I'm planning to go Calgary and Banff Nat'l Park, may be Jasper as well if time/budget is allowing

Negative on British Columbia, Vancouver & surrounding is digital EDACS, but from BC/ALT border through to Vancouver, RCMP provincial police force is 139-140 MHZ conventional , easy to find , fire between 140-174 throughout and BC Min of Health provincial ambulance between 142-150 Mhz very commonis 149.68 and others , PM me for specifics or post here.
