BC125AT: BC125AT CTCSS Setting

Hey folks just wanted to clarify this when programming my BC125AT. The only difference in setting CTCSS/DCS between "Off" and "Search" is that "Off" does NOT show the tone that is being received (if any) and "Search" WILL display the tone that is being received (if any). Is that correct?

Out of curiousity, why would anyone not want to see a tone if there is one being used?

Yes your understanding is right.

As for the “no tone”question, my own example would be a nearby repeater where a few EMS services are on it, each with their specific CTCSS tone. I have that frequency programmed once and with no tones, as I want to hear all of the EMS teams.

It also saves me entering multiple times the same frequency but with different tones for each, in different memory channels (and it doesn’t slow down the scanning because entered once).
