Just leaving this post here in case any noobs in New Zealand like me accidentally ordered a BC125AT (yes I'm an idiot). Basically if anyone has made the same mistake, if you're living in one of the three major centres then it's not the end of the world.
While I expected the worst, since I live in Christchurch I can still hear Fire (Main and Regional), Ambulance and Air channels fine which were the main ones I was most concerned about. Many other simplex channels are also within range.
Can hear plenty of other stuff too including Marine, Taxis, numerous companies, HAM/Amateur channels, PRS etc. Just program them in from RadioWiki so you get the right frequencies as scanning steps will be different.
For me personally this is just my interim device until I can afford a digital one that can trunk/decode - at which time I'll make sure to buy a NZ band one! But in the meantime it's fine for what I wanted it for since I don't really leave the area. I also use an SDR-RTL for other frequencies/digital if I really want.
