BC142XL PROGRAMING? Please Help

Hi all.
First off Im new here, and would like to thank you guys for creating this forum. I have a BC 142XL. I cant figure out how to program it. I know it sound slike a dumb question, but this was passed down from my grandmother. I have a hand held scanner but it's a little different .I was wondering if you guys could help me out?

I believe you hit MANUAL>Channel # you want to program>type in frequency>Press "E." Good luck!
