Can anyone tell me where to get my scanner programmed? Any simplified manuals available for a novice? I live in SD and the new trunked system has frustrated me to no end. HELP

What system are you trying to program (your location) and what kind of problems are you having?

Join the BC245XLT group on http://groups.yahoo.com/group/BC245XLT/ and download the senss software to program the radio. The software is free and works with Windows. BTW, Disable email receiving, using no email or web only since their are no more moderators and the group has been abandoned.

First I'd do my homework - if you're trying to hear the South Dakota state system, forget it - it's a digital system, and the 245 won't do it. You will need a digital trunktracker - The PRO-96, PRO-2096, Uniden BC296, BC796, BCD396 and 996 are all possibilities. The SD (South Dakota) state page can be found here . Just click on the blue and away you go.

The 245 is an analog-only trunktracker, so it cannot handle the state system. However if you have an analog trunk system, chances are good the 245 will handle it. While the Senss software is pretty good, it's quite dated, and a little flaky in some of the ways it does things (I wrote a review on it, posted on the Strong Signals website and linked in the Wiki article on the 245). Scan Control is much better in this regard. The Wiki article on the 245 can be found here

It doesn't seem like our SD forum has much activity but the ScanSD Yahoo group seems pretty busy.
