BC245XLT Question

Can anyone tell me the approximate serial numbers for the 245 which could not scan conventional and trunk at the same time. I have one with 96xxxxxx, and one with 16xxxxxx serial numbers. I don't want to assume that the one with the higher number would trunk,and conventional scan at the same time. I have only a fed dig system currently trunking in my area.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I have never heard of a Uniden 245xlt that did not scan conv&trunking, it was the 235xlt that did that.......

Key sequence to read firmware revision: with power off, hold 2, 4, and 9, turn the radio on, and release the keys. Displays 1.17 EE9bH, 1.19 6A0AH, 1.04, or 1.07.

I think it was 1.17 that had a 5 second delay on a trunked system before it would move on to the next system. The others did not have this delay despite the fact that some of the firmware revisions are lower numbers than 1.17. All of the versions scan conventional and multiple trunked systems at the same time.

Thats it, thanks ai knew there was a significant issue. the five second delay sometimes prevented it from following some trunked conversations.

Mine has the 5 second delay, I truly wish I could update the firmware to make it 1 second, but, I haven't heard of that being available.

There is no firmware update available for the BC245. In fact Uniden denied the existance of any firmware upgrade for the 245. That was back in the bad old days before Paul Opitz joined the company. Uniden's customer relations are so much better today than they were then that I just laugh when I read all the petty complaints being posted these days. I sold my original 245 and picked up one with newer firmware to get rid of the delay.

I've been tempted to exchange mine too, but, I'd be more tempted to jump to a higher end unit facing the scorn of the spouse. I think I'll NOT go uniden next time though unless they go to standard batteries like AA's that can be replaced on the fly.

That is why I am asking. I have 2, 1with delay 1 without. We don't have the trunked systems here yet, except 1 digital Fed system. I am going to give my oldest one to someone who is interested in scanning. It is a very good first scanner, and perhaps I can help them get started.

Both the 396 & the 246 use AA batteries. The 246 comes with two of them, the 396 with 3.

check out the 246T, It is everything the 245 is with 2 AA batteries. It is quite a bit more complicated, but it is an excellent scanner. I can run mine on 2 2500mh bats and get 16 hours of scanning, change the 2 bats and be up and going again.

It will also fit in your shirt pocket.

Good to know. The proprietary packs used in the 235/245 make it very difficult to switch out when you are at a lengthy listening event away from AC power.
Now, if I could only get my car power cable to work, puts out 12v with the right polarity, similar to the wall-wart charger but it never charges.

A couple of solder tab cells (as many as needed) of the right size (AA? AAA?), some tape and a connector.

There are many good reasons to not charge the batteries in the scanner. Fixed-time charge and the price of the scanner are two.

The way the batteries are installed in the 235/245 make removal a pain to externally charge.
I have soldered up a pack on my own but it's ugly. The problem (as you probably already know) being that the batteries are not 2 on top of 2, they are in a diamond pattern and have to remain in that pattern. If someone could rig up a holder for sale that'd be great except that there is no room for the holder, barely enough for the soldered on wires.
