I need to order new keypad rubber for my 246, and I noticed on Uniden's website they also have something called a "contact sheet." I am guessing that this is something that goes between the rubber and the circuit board, yes? Anyhow, I'm just trying to figure out if it is a good idea to order this along with the keypad rubber (i.e., is it prone to going bad like the rubber?). It's so cheap I would just order it, but I see that it is back ordered and I don't want to delay getting the rubber if the contact sheet isn't really needed.

Thanks.

If you are getting a new keypad due to degraded appearance, then you likely don't need the contact sheet. If you are getting a new keypad because some of the buttons aren't working all the time, then you likely do need the contact sheet.

If you use your keypad a lot the conductive film on the contact sheet can wear out. Have you noticed any buttons that you have to press extra hard to make them work? If so I would replace it while in there.

The keypad for the 246T doesn't work well ... as mine wore out within a month of getting the scanner. They do get worn and you just have to replace them (I don't think that you need the contact sheet .. just the keypad) I don't know why Uniden doesn't make them like the 780XLT keypad as they don't wear at all.

Maybe this is something that Paul can look into .. as they really need to fix this as they are obviously using crappy materials to make them as compared to the older models.

This scanner was released in 2004 - is this still an issue with new units?

My only problem is that the lettering has worn off, so it sounds like I'll just get the keypad (or two).

Thanks for the information, everyone.
