What is the purpose of using or not using this option?

When I first downloaded something directly from radioreference.com it only showed the blue alternate control channels in ARC246.

Hi Quasarba,

Before this option we had to enter each channel on a system...up to 28 frequencies per system. With Control Channel Only we only enter the two or three control channels. 'Saves us some time, and saves memory in the scanner.

I hope this helps.

Early trunking scanners needed all the trunked frequencies for the radio to follow a conversation. Then control channel only came along, allowing you to program just the control channel frequency (and alternate frequencies that the controller would use) and track the voice frequencies as reported by the control channel data.

With CC Only, you have less work to do and if new voice channels are added to the system, the scanner will automatically tune to them.

On the other hand, if you program all of the system frequencies and turn off CC Only, the scanner is less likely to act on false decodes (the Unidens do that a lot under the right conditions)
