I just bought a bc246t off eBay and was wondering if it is possible to listen to Memphis/Shelby County http://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?sid=4361 on the scanner? It is a Motorola Type II Smartzone system in analog and apco25. I can get the control channels but it does not decode them. I am new to Uniden scanners so I'm not sure. Thanks for the info.

I just bought a bc246t off eBay and was wondering if it is possible to listen to Memphis/Shelby County Scanner Frequencies: Memphis/Shelby County Public Safety Trunking System, Memphis, Tennessee on the scanner? Looking at the system you reference, by far the majority of the public safety talkgroups are digital (the 'D' in the mode column), with quite a few tagged as encrypted (the 'E'). Can you hear the digital groups with your Pro-106? On the 246, the digital ones will sound like static or just noise. The 246 will mute on the encrypted talkgroups. It's not as sensitive on reception as the Pro-106, and benefits, on 800mhz, from a better antenna than the stock handheld. Other than a few interop tgid's, the main analog ones on that system appear to be public works, not public safety usage (police/fire/ems), so the 246 does not appear to be a good choice for that specific system.
