On the Bearcat BC246T, if I'm using ID Scan (or ID Search) on a Motorola trunked system, I can hold on any talkgroup that becomes active by pressing "Hold".

But how do you enter a talkgroup ID that isn't stored in memory, and that isn't active, just to monitor it temporarily? Can you do this without entering it into a memory? I couldn't find this discussed anywhere in the manual.

You can't keep it around unless it's stored in a channel. Remember, on the 246T talkgroups == channels.

I have several talkgroups that pop up on occasion within the systems/groups I already have programmed that are new TGs that I nor anyone else that I'm aware of have been able to specifically ID. I use E to enter them and keep them stored in the system/group I first hit on them with for later identification.

I could be wrong about this so if I am, ignore what I just said. But so far I haven't found a way to keep a TG around unless it's stored someplace, and that means it takes up a channel.

Hope this helps,

Paul

You can always delete a TG faster than you can put one in, so why not just enter it then you can delete it later? It might turn out to be a totally new one and you might be the first to ID its use.

You can enter it in the Quick Save group be holding on that system and entering the TGID. It will prompt to confirm you want to save it in the quick save group. Press yes.

I think it's around page 44 in the manual.

I don't think you can monitor it temporarily like you can a frequency (HOLD - enter frequency without pressing ENTER - press HOLD again).

I tried this, and it does work, but....

After you enter the TG, and press "Yes", it will ask you "Quick TGID Save?" and then you press "Yes", it will prompt you for the system you want it to be in. When you select it and press "Yes", you must then press "Hold" or else you won't hear anything on the talkgroup, even though it may look as if you're monitoring it. This comes after you are asked if you want to edit the ID name, and other options, which you can ignore if you want.

Thanks Joe!
