I have a 246 i am trying to more volume out of it on EMS here in Ottawa Ontario Canada local fire is excellent but EMS is on Fleetnet which is Motorola type II and very low volume i heard it's because the 246 does not have NFM and was hoping it could be looked at in the next firmware.

Thanks

Pity there's not a voting button for threads like this. I'd bet *every* 246T owner trying to monitor VHF trunked systems (along with other stuff) would be enthusiastically clicking the "YES! YES! YES!" button. :)

I can get tolerable levels after doing a hardware hack to my 246T and using an earphone and cranking the volume up full. But I need to remember to lock out *all* conventional frequencies lest I blow brain matter out the other side if something comes up there.

Brad.

The firmware update is the BC346XT. Not to sound sarcastic, but why would they add anything to the 246 when a new scanner is coming out next year. There hasn't been a scanner manufacturer that will do updates to older scanners, unless they are the 396 and 996.

Well the 246T is still an active and current model.

They are releasing a firmware update for this radio in November.

Can't blame anyone for making suggestions for improvement for the update.

I found that analog fleetnet on the 246 was low compared to other systems such as the TPS, Halton Region EDACS system and Hamilton to name a few. It was worse when I got further away from the towers.

As they say on the border side of the border where you can buy beer in a dep, c'est la vie.

so would you say that the psr-300 beats out the 246t due to that volume prob?, would u buy one of those instead?, or is the 246t still the favored one?

Because the 246T was broken from day one and owners have been asking for this fix for years now. Uniden should've fixed it then and nothing has changed since. That is why they should step up.
