I have the -96 and a BC785 (250 in a different shell). Things I like about the -96 are obviously it does more digital. It also has the V-folders and a LOT more talk groups per bank. It has fewer frequencies however. It's a trade off. I'd gladly get my 100 freqs back, and give up 2 V-folders or something.
Things I like about the Unidens, however, are the longer alpha tags (16 vs. 12 on -96). I like that while scanning, the Uniden shows when it locks on the TRS, and then goes back to conventional. The -96 makes no indication when it's on the TRS vs. conventional freqs. It's also much easier to scroll thru and listen to talkgroups on the Unidens. In order to listen to a talkgroup on the -96, you have to go back into trunking ID hold. Would be nice if that wasn't so.
I haven't been able to find an adjustable delay on the -96, but I didn't RTFM very thorougly, admittedly. I also wish there was a way to switch between CTCSS/DCS usage and search, like on the Uniden. Only way I see to do so on the -96 is to delete the tone data. Once again, though, didn't RTFM, so not 100%.
Personally, I think I'd take the Unidens, even though the -96 has a lot of strong selling points/cool features.
