After much research and forum browsing I finally decided on buying the BC246T (from scanner master, of course). I should be getting it in the next couple of days, but I was wondering if there are any tips from you pros in the forum on any tips or hints for a scanner user new to trunking. My main focus is listening to the Tacoma Police Department (Wa. State). But I really have limited knownledge on trunking as a whole. Any ideas or tips would be appreciated.

Thanks Again,
Justin

Read the trunking WIKI here, linked above, and that gives you a good primer on the basics.

Justin - keep this link handy. It has many good ref's about and for the 246:

http://www.radioreference.com/wiki/index.php/BC246T

Many use software to do the programming; while ARC246 is the champ, some like the UASD as well. The Scannerbase software is FREE and will do logging (tho it's really not set up for programming, as I understand it). There's even a tck/tl package if you're into that.

Keep the firmware link handy - you will need this at some point (you can also get the UASD software from here). There is also a USB driver that you might need (if you plan to use a PC without a serial port...).

Finally, there's the 'easier to read 246 manual' link. Take the time to capture that - maybe even read it offline - and begin to lay out what you want to hear.

Take your time to learn about your new toy (I'm jealous...) 73s Mike
