I just got a new BC146T Looks to be a nice unit, I downloaded the software to program it, but they only gove you a "demo mode". Can someone point me in the the direction of finding a serial number to open the software. I paid alot for the unit I would rather not pay for more to make it run

When you download the software, there is a link to buy it and they'll email you a keycode.

Unfortunately, the UASD software isn't free if you want the full functionality of the software. It's pay for play.

ARC246 from Butel Software (www.butelsoftware.com) is another OUTSTANDING piece of software for controlling and programming the 246T. I just purchased it myself ($39.95) and it's worth every single cent.

The only thing you can do at this point is try the demo/trial versions of both software packages and decide which you find more appealing and useful to you.

There is one freeware piece of software I've seen for the 246T but compared to ARC246 (I really didn't like the UASD software when I first tried it after getting my 246T), it's not even in the same ballpark.

If you want a link to it, I'll locate it but really you'd probably be far better off using ARC246 or UASD.

Hope this helps,

Paul

There is some freeware out there but I haven't used it. I have ARC246! I love the arc software, but if you are willing, you'll have to go to the following link and download the freeware from the yahoo group files. Here is the BC246T Freeware Yahoo Group

Can you locate the freeware for me? I already have the freeware from the yahoo group, but I think it sucks. I think I am going to buy ARC 246 one of these days.

Yes a simple question that is frowned upon here since the people that make the sofware post here and are a big help to the forums. I'm really shocked that anyone offered you any kind of help. Stop being so cheap, its only 30 bucks....

Not for sure but I think there was some sort of statement in a disclosure about when I got my key for the uniden software and the number is registered to a particular user.

If someone can afford the 246T, then they can afford the software. Butel puts out a quality product, that really isn't that expensive for what it does for the user. And as Dwayne said, the owner is a great guy who does a lot for us. So basically, we don't take a dump in our own yard.

You don't need to pay more to make it run. If you want to program it by hand, that is your choice. It will work fine.

But, asking for a pirated regustration key is being a d******d if you ask me. I'm sure many others agree - especially those who PAID for what you want given to you.

 I didn't realize he had asked for the codes....I thought he was looking for the yahoo group freeware...... I paid for my ARC246 and love it. As a matter of fact, when pricing the scanner, I just added $30.00 to the price because I knew I was going with butel before I purchased. I don't think anyone who paid the $30 for the software is giving up their code!!!!

I did indeed end up buying what I needed, thanks for all your kind opinions, but just remember what you guys posted when you download an MP3 and how much of a hypocrit that will make you. Somewhere along the line someone purchased that song for you to enjoy on the internet

While I can't speak for others here, I personally don't download MP3 files at all. As for other programs or files, unless its freeware, I pay for it. I certainly am no saint, but I don't knowingly try to circumvent licenses either. You make a valid point about people wanting to enjoy for free what another paid for - thus our reaction.

I wouldn't take his comments personally. He is still trying to justify his request for a registration code. That's only natural human behavior.
