BC250D vs. BC296D

I have hung on to my old 780xlt until technology has finally caught up to me. If I am going to keep up I need to get a digital capable scanner. Having been so pleased with my 780xlt, I'd like to stay with Uniden. Can someone explain to me in a nutshell, the biggest differences between the BC250D and the BC296D? I haven't done that much research yet, so I figured the best place to start would be here where the voices of experience are in abundance and always helpful. Thanks for any insight on this matter.

The 296 does 9.6bps control channel trunking without an add on card, while the 250 requires an add one digital card and only tracks 3.6bps control channels. I think that's the only difference.

More accurately put:

The 296 includes the digital card while it was optional on the 250.
(It is removable on both)

The 296 supports 9600 CCs

The two are identical with the exception of the firmware and some minor cosmetics.

Yes I did, but the problem with the Pro-96 is that it doesn't track EDACS narrowband, and that's one of the main systems in my area. I had already considered the 96 until I found that out.

If your not in a big hurry for this then you could wait for the new Uniden to hit the stores.

BC396T and I think it has a fall release date.

the 250 MAY not be able to be reflashed/reprogrammed after the 800Mhz rebanding is complete.. i didnt see a definitive answer in the thread though, but that may be something to consider.
