Hello all. My wife just got me a 250D w/ the digital card. I've only had the Pro 96's so I'm new to Uniden. For those of you that have had them, what are your opinions on them? I don't have any 9600 systems in my area, so I'm not even concerned with that. She paid $100 for it on ebay, was that a good deal for this radio?

I believe that to be a very good deal as it includes the digital card. I upgraded to a 396 and sold my 250D without card for $140, but I did include ARC250 program key in the transaction.

As I recall your combination will not do 9600 baud system. It is still a very servicable radio depending on the mix of systems in your area.

The only stystems in my area are 3600's. So hopefully nothing will change around here. And we'll have to see what happens with rebanding.

If re-banding happens your scanner will no longer trunk Motorola systems.

However it will still scan EDACS, LTR, and conventional fine (you may need to reprogam it).

But yes $100 with the card is a steal
Still got the link to the auction?

Very good deal with the card. I've had my 250d for 4 years and it meets all of my needs. I picked the 250d because of the option to go digital. It's the only scanner I use. I maybe purchasing on of the new models when they come out. Congrats on the great deal!

Yeah at first she wasn't too fond of my scanners. But after hearing her first car chase a few years back she's been hooked. Thanks for the responses guys.

I forgot to ask how this radio performs on digital compared to the Pro 96. I should be recieving it today or tomorrow so I'm anxiously waiting for it to arrive.

BC250D is a great little scanner

Greetings, I see your awaiting your 250D (digital) scanner to be delivered. I wanted to wish ya the best of luck with it. I currently have a few scanners, but my favorite thus far has been my Uniden Bearcat UBC3300XLT hand-held scanner... the UBC3300XLT is the UK european version of the U.S. manufactured 250D model. The major difference is the reception of the blocked cellular frequencies, but thats about all. It has wonderful reception, I bought the bc250i plug in card which allows it to monitor P25 systems, but it does not receive those 9600 buad digital frequencies. As far as I understand, the UBC3300XLT and the BC250D are not able to be reprogrammed or upgraded for the rebanding. I hear that the BC296D is rebandable and upgradeable... the BC296D was the same looking scanner as yours and mine, but was able to receive 9600 digital, and a used one is around 300 to 375 dollars cheaper than the newest marketed scanners of today. I had an ebay bid on one for sale last nite, but didnt win the bidding. This upsets me because I love my UBC3300XLTscanner to death, but in order for me to monitor the local sheriff, I require digital 9600 and feel I need to keep up with technology... I may be doing some early XMAS shopping for a new DIGITAL toy soon... most likely a GRE PSR-500 as I have heard the most wonderful news and comparisons about thier features, and its upgradeable. OR maybe a BC396XLT which is also new to the market, coming out in a few short months. The possibilities are endless. Be sure ya put a good antenna up outdoors, its really amazing what these scanners can receive.

Pro-96 is suppose to have much better digital audio...
but I certainly have no problem with the 250D's audio.

Other highlights...

The 250 DOES i-calls and LTR (the pro-96 does not)

Note The 250 is NOT re-bandable (which is maybe why the person sold it off cheap)

I quess that could be one of the reasons, or the previous owner now needs to monitor digital 9600 buad reception in his local area, or, the previous owner is out of gas and needs to buy a gallon or two... to get to the scanner store for a new radio. lol, anyway ya look at it, sounds like the purchase price was very fair, and its new owner will listen in on some great transmissions.

It sounds like it's a great radio. The one thing I'm looking forward to using, that the Pro-96 doesn't offer is the signal meter. It didn't arrive last nite so hopefully today. I think my wife told me it was shipped Tuesday from N.C. so how long would that take on average? Anyone know? From N.C. to N.E. Ohio... Yes, I'm still anxious...

I actually got it Saturday afternoon. After thinking about it for a while I was wondering if it even had a digital card, because the seller didn't really specify if it had the card or not. Well, guess what. It doesn't. Did she still pay a good price for this radio even without the car? And would it be worth getting one for it or just wait to get a PSR 500? Otherwise it works and looks just fine. Half of the things I listen to in my area are digital, although there are still plenty of analog things to enjoy.

marine,

It is still a good deal at $100!

Finding a card might take some time and usually they are pricey. It might be better to have your 250 setup for the analog and a 2nd digital radio for the other half. During a 2-3 week span before I sold the 250 and had the 396 it was interesting to listen to both scanners at the same time. Occasionally you will pickup something on one scanner while the other is busy with something else.

You can never have to many scanners. :)

Oh yeah, I'll be saving up for a another digital radio in the near future. I'll use this one for all the analog stuff to listen to.

I can't seem to find it in the manual, but is there a way to reset/initialize this radio? There are still alot of channels and frequencies that the previous owner had on it.
