BC296D and monitoring

Here's something pretty funny. Was talking to the wife tonight who pointed out that I spent well over $500.00 for my BC296D and the extra antenna. She asked me if I really listened to CSP enough to warrant the purchase now as well as any other digital that I listen to. Well, for once (and I'll only admit it here and only this one time) I kind of have to say. I rarely listen to the scanner these days. CSP is good to be able to hear, as is Branford and Cheshire but for what I listen to and how often, I may just be putting the radio up for sale pretty soon.

I don't know, Joe...I go through phases sometimes. I almost sold my Icom 746, but something told me not to, and I didn't. I'm damned glad I didn't...I jump on 40 meters here and there, and it also doubles as an excellent HF aircraft monitor.

I say hold on to it, brother!

Interesting topic, since I finally broke down and decided to get something new to listen to the CSP. I think it makes my girl happy since I got rid of a lot of old stuff.

CSP is interesting especially if you have some of the talkgroups that aren't listed for obvious reasons. I mean other than CSP - Branford and Chesire are really the only ones digital right now. Thats why the costs pretty much make me question as to why I did the purchase when I did. With the 396 coming out this summer and all it's features, that kinda put a crimp in my justification. Maybe as more departments go digital, I'll be a bit happier about it. BTW MTA - been seeing you guys alot in West Haven past few weeks.
