BC296D Problem?

Hi Everyone,

Quick question for ya, I went to turn on my scanner today and as I turned it on the first screen came up and then faded away....this was followed by a static noise similar to turning a radio dial to a program.....the sound continues without any screen display. I charged the scanner for a bit and then turned it on, however the screen came up and faded away as previously stated. Subsequent turn ons of the scanner result in no screen display whatsoever without recharging for a bit. Anybody have any ideas, I was thinking the battery might need to be replaced but I'm still new to the scanner hobby.

Try re-charging again for the full time recommended in the Owner's Manual . Choose an area where the unit will not get disturbed.
I like to recharge on a power bar on the floor as opposed to a wall outlet.
If this doesn't correct the problem the pack is probably pooched and will have to be replaced.
How old is your radio and how many times has it been recharged approx. ?

Hey mciupa,

I charged it today for about 8 hours but still no result, I got the radio almost a year ago and off the top of my head I'm unsure of how many times I recharged it but I would assume @ least 75-100 charges. Any idea on where to get the replacement battery pack or could you recommend one pack over another?

Have you tried just running it while it's plugged in? If it works its then the battery is pouched.

Yeah I did try that it doesn't run @ all just an opening screen and then the weird noise after so it doesn't scan or anything!! Any ideas??

Hard to say without checking the ac adapter with a voltmeter.
At a year old, the battery pack is living, at best, on borrowed time. It's due for a change anyway before long if your usage is anywhere close to mine. But you may have a bad ac adapter as well, since it apparently won't run off the wall wart. If you have a dc adapter (car cord) try that, or maybe someone you know has an adadpter and/or battery pack to try.
If it won't run with known good power sources, then unfortunately that would mean sending it in for repair.

Any recent electrical storms or power surges that could have damaged something?
