I have a question regarding the programming of the 296D for Base Space and Offset data, particularly on a VHF trunked system. I have heard conflicting stories. Is it or is it not required to program in the Frequency Tables (Base, Space, Offset) for VHF P-25 trunked systems in the 296D. I have heard that maybe newer model doesn't need anything special. Any word how the 396T plans on dealing with this?

Thanks

Both the BC796D and BC296D (assuming updated firmware, see Uniden site) will work with both UHF and VHF Project 25 systems by placing anything in the Base/Offset/Space settings. It doesn't really use them, but I think they must have something in them. Now understand the is only for true APCO Project 25 systems (9.6 Kbs CC). The actual settings are read from the data stream itself.

The BCD396T works in a similar fashion.

Thats good, all the information needed by ANY radio is in the data stream on the control channel. As I mentioned earlier, even the pro 96 is doing the math, but rather than grab the needed tables off the data stream to do the math with, they want us to permanantly tell the radio which data table to use. Glad to hear Uniden has added the extra "few lines of code" to make the things work.
