Hello everyone.

I am new to the world of scanning and I need a little help. I have the Uniden BC296D scanner, (works great). I would like to get a little more involved with this scanner but I need some help.

First, sometimes the ID display name does not show up when locked on to an ID tag, it just shown, "NEW". How can I fix this?

Second, I have downloaded the software update for the scanner, is this something I should install? Wha will it give me that I don't already have?

Third, os there any accessories I sould be looking at such as a bigger antenna, different PC software, etc...?

Fourth, are there any good books, websites, or other information one could recommend to gain more knowledge of this product and it's uses?

Thank a lot for your time.

Sincerely,

Jeff

1. "NEW" indicates a TG for which you have not yet stored/assigned a text tag. Simply store the TG with a text tag.

2. The software update corrects a problem that occurs if you use ' or " in a text tag.

3. Depends on your situation. RS sells a nice 800 MHz antenna that gives extra gain. Or, you might want an external antenna for your car or home. Some of the software out there (Butel, etc) has extra features that aren't in the Uniden free software.

4. www.radioreference.com is the best collection of resources. Check out the links on the left side of the home page.
