BC296D refuses to scan in any mode!!!

Gentlemen and prehaps Ladies.
Sometimes I think my mother did away with all of her smart children and forgot to dispose of me.
I have just purchased a BC296D and I assume I have hit something that has caused all functions to scan. I have read the (poor? manual. I thought that perhaps I had by accident locked all channels. I followed their instructions for unlocking all frequencies but still no scan. Would any of the forum members have any suggestions???? Thanks for your response in advance!!

296D Refueses to scan

Look in the very back of your manual and reset scanner. I believe its hold down 2,9, and manual keys while you turn it on.
