What a great site this is! The information here is overwhelming! Perhaps somebody can answer a question for me. While chain searching with my 296, with the AutoStore feature on, I have no audio. It stops at different freq's, and you can see them being added to the bank (ie 324,325,326...) but I can't hear anything. I've pressed the MUTE button, held it in, went all through the manual, can't find anything. The scanner functions fine in all other areas, that's why I figured it must be something I'm doing/not doing. Oh yeah, with the AutoStore turned off, everything works fine again. Is this just something goofy Uniden did with the autostore? Man, that stinks if it is! Thanks in advance for any input.

Well, since I didn't get a response here, I called Uniden. Boy, their Cust. Service leaves a LOT to be desired. He told me that was normal, not to worry...I explained to him that I'm not "worried", just curious. While chain searching, I can't listen to what's happening, the scanner is just there, searching away. I gotta say, I'm a little disapointed. They introduced a great new option, but it's completely worthless to me since I listen to my scanner 80% of the time. Nice try, Uniden!

Guys... AUTOSTORE does just what the name implies - it stores active frequencies that it finds and then resumes searching. This repeats until the bank is full, and then you can scan that bank to see what you found. You WILL NOT HEAR the frequencies as it searches - that would kinda defeat purpose of autostore. Check your manual - it's in there.

Where in the manual did you find it? I must have read the thing 3 times now...Even Uniden didn't really understand my question at first.

Well, this is the online version I'm looking at, but try page 30 up at the top. It should say "Automatically Storing Frequencies".

That explains what your scanner's doing.
