On occasion when scanning a trunking system (ie in Ontario Fleetnet Motorola Type 2 Smartzone)
the scanner stops on the control channel but doesn't show any activity. It says that it's scanning.

I've reset the scanner and reprogrammed the first bank for the Fleetnet system but the results are the same. It's as if the scanner is set to listen only for I-CALLS but I've confirmed that it's set to off.

It also happens to another Motorola system trunk that I monitor.

I've turned it off and on again and sometimes it will return to normal and work properly but lately it's been not working most of the time.

When I lockout the trunking banks it works fine. I cleared out all the talk groups and set it to search for talkgroups but doesn't find any.

The signal to the scanner is very strong and I've tried different towers but the results are the same.

I keep hitting scan and it will stop on a non-control channel (such as an active voice channel) and just stops on that channel.

Has anyone else had this problem?

My squelch is set fine. When I disable trunking it does a conventional scan of the frequencies and squelch only breaks when there is something active on the channel.

It's like it having a hard time reading the control channel. Nothing has changed on my scanner and the signal is strong. Most of the time it works but lately it's been not working.

I haven't done any custom frequency tables. No changes at all.

On that model scanner if you do not have TG's programmed into scanner it will not receive anything in ID SCAN mode. It must be in ID SEARCH mode to receive ALL TG's.

I do have talk groups in memory. When I reprogrammed it I only did the frequencies and put the scanner in search mode but would not find any talk groups.

The scanner worked fine with tg's already programmed but for some reason (nothing changed) the scanner would just stop on a control channel and find nothing as if the I-Calls was set to Only (which I've confirmed it's not).

Last night it was working, finding new talk groups but I had turned it off then on again and it went back to stopping on the control channel and not finding any talkgroups.

When I am on a control channel it stops but when I remove the antenna the scanner resumes scanning in conventional mode.

Sounds like either:
You have the wrong trunking system type assigned. or
You have control channel scanning ON and don't have the proper PLAN set for the system.

I would agree with you but everything is set properly. I turn it on one day and it works fine. I shut it off and turn it on later and it stops working. No settings have changed. It's a VHF Type 2 Motorola Trunk system.
