I'm having difficulty catching traffic. I programmed all the channels as listed on the RR into the scanner and put it in trunk mode, but I get pieces of convesations. Meaning, I get the feeling I'm missing some sides of conversations. Maybe I'm missing a frequency...

With EDACS you should be within a reasonable distance to catch the action.(Motorola systems seem to get out a lit bit better) Are you local ?

Are you seeing Talk Group numbers on your display ?
Example :02-041
( I prefer AFS , not DEC when I monitor an EDACS system)

If you have all the freq's in LCN order then your system is programmed properly and TG's should display.

Do you have the DELAY on?
Maybe it's hanging on the tx's a bit too long and you miss the replies. :?

I got a 796d and live in Kitchener and have no problems listening to the waterloo region edacs. Could be your location, or maybe something wrong with the way you programmed in the frequencies.

Try running the trunk system in search mode, might help as well.

I have noticed the system has been rather noisy lately in spots, maybe it is just a bad signal. The system is a 5 site simulcast system so you shouldn't have too much trouble hearing it as long as you are in the Region. Make sure you have every frequency programmed in trunking mode and that they are in logical channel order.

I have also noticed (this is probably just the scanner) that some transmissions are very weak and barely come in and then the next one is loud and clear. I think it's something to do with the 796d/296d since when I use my bc-245, it tracks the system no problem.
