I have just received my new 346xt, and was playing around a little with it. Does anyone know a way to get this thing to display the frequencies as it scans them? instead of the group names & ID SCAN ticker that scrolls along the screen?

Also, I have freescan installed, and downloaded the trunked frequencies for my area (Fayette County, PA). I don't think it's working correctly because I am only hearing one side of the call most of the time. It is purely analog around here. I paid the extra cash for a trunking scanner, and am getting frustrated because I am not picking up any more than a $100 conventional scanner does.

I had 2 ambulances, and 2 police cars setting within 300 feet from my house for an hour, and not one thing was being broadcast from my scanner. Even with close call enabled, I still got nothing.

I may have to pay the $60 to send it to get programmed if it will do me any good.

1) No

2) You might ask in the PA forum, it sounds like a programming issue if you are not hearing all of the comm's. But don't pay unless they are no help.

1. When "scanning" a trunked system the scanner isn't moving from frequency to frequency between calls. It is sitting on a single control channel frequency watching for channel grants that match the channels you've programmed into the scanner. To see the frequency the scanner is currently tuned to at a particular time, press HOLD, then Function + 6/DISP to toggle through the display modes to get to the one you want. (Holdmode < UniDenman4 < TWiki) One mode shows the frequency, one shows the TGID, and one shows the trunking activity indicators.

2. From the database entry, there doesn't seem to be anything special about that system. As long as it is properly programmed (as a Mot Type II 800 Standard system) you should be getting all the traffic. Is that the only system you have programmed? If not, the scanner will be spending part of its time on the other system(s) and could be the source of the missed comms.

Thanks Paul.

What happens when you enter multiple control channels to the trunked setup? What if more than one is active?

Only one control channel will ever be active on a trunked site.

If you enter control channel frequencies for multiple trunked sites into only one site in the scanner, the scanner is going to sit on the first control channel it detects.

Thanks everyone for the replies. This does answer some questions. It does seem to be working ok, but am still missing lots of conversations. I am only using the ducky antenna that came with it for now, which may be a limiting factor as well. Although, I have heard places mentioned on the scanner that are about 15-20 miles from me.

I have about 30 other channels that I programed in myself. Without me doing that, I really doesn't pick up much. I believe all of the frequencies I added are just conventional or standard frequencies that I found on the web and printed out.

I'm am really confused by one part of what I printed. It has the location of the different police stations, and where it says channel assignment, it has (ex.) Edensburg - Channel D, Greensburg - Channel F, Indiana- Channel E, etc..... I'm not sure how to decipher that part of it.

I've been trying to read as much as I can whenever I have the time, but I guess I'm just a slow learner. Hopefully a light will come on eventually.

I highly suggest a post in the PA forum, that's something they'll be better able to answer than Uniden...
