Forgive my ignorance but according to the back of this scanner, it wants a 1.2v 1800mAh battery. Radioshack only carries 1.2v 2500mAh batteries...IIRC the mAh is actual capacity so that would be better than the 1800mAh...and the voltage is the same...

So am I right or do I have to find the "special" batteries?

I have energizer 2500 in my 246 & 346T and they work great.. First thing I did when I open the box was throw the 1800 that came with the scanner's in the trash.

Your fine with those batteries
Almost any AA batteries will work... most people use 2500+ mah batteries.

investigator..
Why would you toss the 1800 mah in the trash??

They do NOT last very long before the battery alert starts beeping. Also my wifes camera came with 1800 and on a trip they went low very fast. I got her a set of the 2500 online since it is like a battery pack and she can take pics ALL day. For some reason if you put two 2500 in her camera the camera will not work, but once I got her the 2500 pack it worked fine.

How long do you have the scanner "Charge Time" set for? I believe the default is 12 hours but that seems pretty long.
