Another newbie here with a BC346XT in Sacramento, CA...

I was able to program in Sacramento Regional Radio Communication System (SRRCS) which uses the Motorola Type II SmartZone. It works great.

I then added the "Department of Highway Patrol" aka California Highway Patrol which is on a system I'm not quite sure which it is because within the last few years they have been upgrading. Uploaded it directly from RR to ARC XT onto my scanner.

SRRCS works fine. It has yet to pickup anything Highway Patrol though.

What am I doing wrong? Anyone with any suggestions would be greatly appreciate it.

Hello, ABC916 and welcome to RR. What frequencies do you have programmed for Sac CHP?

I took the frequencies directly off RR but only put on CHP's gold and black channels. So the frequencies were:

Gold 44.62000, 42.2000, 769.16875, 769.68125

Black 44.66000, 42.28000, 769.44375, 769.71875

The 700 mhz frequencies are for the officers mobile extender. Unless you are super close to the officer you will not be able to hear them. Besides, they are P25 digital and the 346XT will not decode digital.

The low band frequencies are correct so I don't know why you're not hearing any traffic. I live in San Jose and I can hear San Jose CHP just fine on my 346XT and 396XT. Did you make sure you have the correct CTCSS tones programmed?

It really depends are where you are in Sacramento in order to hear CHP well. A proper antenna really helps, too. With the Gold, I only have 44.62 programmed, and 44.66 for the Black. Not to sound rude, but you did put them in a conventional system, right?

The CTCSS are programmed in and conventional. So far, it's picking up CHP Blk intermittently. I haven't picked up Gold yet but I'm guessing I would only pick that up if I was in the north area.
