I am trying to keep my scanner set up so that the groups are by geographical areas. I have run into a snag in programming it this way when using conventional and trunked freqs. The software I use is FreeScan...and I think it works well. But when I load in trunking frequencies I cannot assign them to a group number (0-9). It is not an option in the programming software for these trunked systems like it is for conventional. Anyone have a work around for this scenario? My old RS scanner was able to do this with the bank system...I have to think that the Uniden has the ability to do it also.

thanks friends...

quick key question

In the FreeScan software when I go to assign a QK, it says that it will affect all the systems under this one? By default the quick key option is set to BY SITE, and all of the boxs are checked for the TGID group enable/disable. I am not using any other QK's so maybe this wont matter???

thanks for the clarification

Thanks UPMan, I think I got it to work the way I want it now. This is just so much different from what I have been used to. But other than the learning curve, its been good.

The thing is on GRE/RS digital OOP scanners u can put your favorite trunk system and conv- stuf in a SList and scan them together....In the Uniden "XT" models u seperate the two BUT, u can create two "systems" one trunked , one conv- and assign them to the same "SQK", there are benefits to both....

That's one nice thing about my RS-162; I can program in conv freq's with an EDACs system and a Motorola if I want, so I can keep all the regional stuff together in its own bank. While the Uniden system is more flexible with how you program systems, it can get a bit complicated. Particularly if you are scanning an area with lots of different radio systems. I've set up over 30 systems in my 346xt just because I can. But, I love my RS because it's simple.

If you want to keep the regional stuff together, as with your RS_162, just assign all the related systems the same SQK. That way, they will turn on/off as one.

So to do that. All we would have to go is create a different conventional system for each instead of lumping all conventional into 1 system with different quick keys, yes?
