I recently purchased a BC350c off of ebay that was refurbished by uniden. My wife was talking on our Uniden 2.4 ghz phone when 153.8000 picked up. I could here everything my wife was saying. I couldn't hear the other side of the conversation but she was as clear as day.

Anything I should do or be aware of?

I guess if you figure in or out the IF stages, you may be receiving the 5th harmonic for her transmitter at a close range. If you don't hear her at 50 feet, then it could be her final oscillator output front loading your scanner at the closer range.

In the former, the phone may not be digital, but I thought all 2.4 are digital.

Hearing cordless phones isn't unusual on a scanner. However, I think most times the level at which the transmission takes place is too weak of a signal for most scanners to pick up. Since you are within the same home, it's not all that much of a shocker. There are phones available that would offer you some more security if you feel it is a vast concern, but in all honesty, I would not really worry about it.

The 2.4 gHz is for the portability range. The handset is probably in the 924 to 927 range for signal clarity. As a test, put 924-927 in search in your 350 when the phone is in use ,and see what the handset freq. is.

I am not concerned for our security. I say nothing on the phone that I would care for anyone to listen to other than the occasional phone counseling. I know enough to not expect anything wireless to be secure. I am just boring enough that I don't figure anyone would care to listen. I just don't want to have equipment that could get me in trouble.

You can listen to your own phone conversation in front of the FBI, CIA, FEMA and president George Bush. You are not illegal to hear your own phone!

You are if you listen to other people however.

Not all 2.4 GHz. phones are "digital". I hate when companys slap that scheme on phones. You want DSS. If it don't say it don't pay it. It will cost you however. And it dose not matter if it is 2.4, 5.8 or 900 MHz. DSS still secure all the same, I use a 900 MHz. DSS.Clarity is and has always been good. Range, well I don't live on a ranch or in a huge building, just in a house.

I would also note that you said your scanner was refurbished? This could have a possibility to but it more then likely is a harmonic.

Another thing about 2.4 GHz phones is that wi-fi and ones "unsecure" wireless network is runing the same freq.

At my computer, duh!
What is truly scary about 2.4 Ghz phones, is hearing all the static as you walk past the microwave in the kitchen. Then think what's causing it. Thought these things were supposed to be sealed up pretty good.

This is interesting because I held my two radar detectors up to the "nuke" and they went off. But you have to move them around a bit to make it set off. It's funny to hear the radar detector say "x-band beep beep beep!!!" You can buy a RF near field detector and measure these emissions. Or you can build one that not only will measure them but hear them.
