These radios are selling pretty cheap on ebay, especially the factory refurbished ones. Does anyone have one? Are they pretty good radios. I was thinking of getting one for my vehicle. Do the factory preset frequencies actually pick up anything?

Keep in mind, a lot of scanners will be available cheaper, due to the ill effects of rebanding.

It's a good one. I used one in my vehicle for a couple of years. Great for conventional stuff. As far as the pre-programmed stuff, you're better off finding information on sites like this one, but it might be o.k. if you're traveling and haven't researched the frequencies for the area. It is a little different to program, but you can learn and get used to it without much hassle.

Conventional only- no trunking, so just keep that in mind. That's not bad unless you have trunking in your area. It should last you for a few years.

I had one of these also and it's a good radio for traveling with pretty good sensitivity and selectivity. The service search bands are a little odd, with the Fire service search not including any 151 frequencies commonly used for forestry fire departments, but they do work. They just scan a set number of frequencies so it's not like the radio has any particular systems programmed in. As tglendye said, they use an unusual method for programming the so-called Private freqencies but it's more annoying than difficult. If you don't need trunking or digital, $68 is a pretty good deal for a refurb.
