BC396 quick keys

Can someone explain the quick keys on the 396. I see on the screen somehting that says "SO" and "GRP". So do you have grps and then sub grps. Or what

Pretty much. I just have 3 groups, and each of my groups has one sub-group. I munbered the sub-group quick-key to match the group quick-key to make the little flashing numbers look better.

Plus if you want to change a system you just push the systems quick key number to turn off/on. That is very neat the way the quick keys work. Is there a way to open and close the groups banks with quick key.

I have become quite dependent on the quick keys, especially with the state-wide Colorado trunked system. I can turn on or off only those areas in which I'm driving or otherwise interested. Also on the Denver trunked system I have the various districts, fire, EMS, etc. on subgroups so I can listen only to the parts of town I'm interested in.

My only complaint is that I can't select/deselect subgroups with one hand--it makes it tough to do while driving...

It's pretty much just like what the PRO-96 does with it's banks control.

Here they are.....
Delaware
Federal Agencies
Maryland
Maryland Misc.
Maryland Agencies
Media
NewYork
Pennsylvania
Power Companies
Wash D.C.
Under these I have groups. For example, under Maryland
I have the counties. I have almost all 23 Maryland counties and Baltimore City.
Then each county is broken down into fire, police , tactical etc., etc., etc.

So what is meant by "SO" and "GRP" on the screen.
Theoretically I would like to be able to turn on a configuration and then a group. Even to go as far as to select like fire, police, etc., etc., etc.

When your scanning a group hit func and the sub group you want to lock in/out.

Each system can be assigned to a System Quick Key (SQK). You can have multiple systems assigned to the same SQK so that the systems turn on/off together.

Within each system, you have Channel Groups (which hold channels). Each channel group can have a Group Quick Key (GQK). Multiple channel groups within a system can have the same GQK so that the channel groups turn on/off together.

To turn on/off systems that are assigned to a SQK, simply press the number button associated with the system(s) while scanning. For two-digit SQK's, precede the SQK with the decimal.

To turn on/off channel groups for a system, while the scanner is scanning that system press and hold F. Continue to hold F and press the number button associated with channel group. If the scanner is not currently on the system you want to affect, press and hold F, rotate SCROLL to select the system. Then, continue to hold F and press the number.

GQK's are specific to a system. That is, if you turn on GQK 1 for one system, it is only turned on for that system...even if other systems have the same SQK.

Is it possible in a future firmware update to make it so you can press F and without holding F but within a certain amount of time press the GQK? That would make it a one-handed operation.
