My 396xt volume switch stopped functioning for no reason.

radio seems to function otherwise, when I push the F button to try to adjust squlch the button does not work either. seems as if its stuck in some mode or is broke any suggestions. radio treated with kit gloves so it wasnt abuse. anything like a master reset on these.

If you have programming software, I'd suggest loading a saved configuration file and then programming it to the scanner, presuming you haven't made a lot of keypad changes. That would overwrite anything that you may have inadvertently bumped, etc.

You could also do a read of the configuration file first, just to see if anything pops up.

Thanks for the response, I think the switchs push button feature is dirty or worn. I was able to get it to finally enter the volume adjustment mode after working the button for a while but it is still very intermittent . It also seems to like a certain notch on the rotary knob. I wonder if I can use a small needle or something to drip some contact cleaner in the switch or if that will make things worse.

if i remember

there are no contacts inside it.
mine has fallen twice and landed on the knob.
after the first one it hardly worked.
after the second it works like crazy, one turn can go either way and a couple of steps at that.
mine will go in for service soon.
you could always hook it up to a computer to make it a base unit and get a 325...
