Hello I am new to the forum and in search of a new scanner. I currently have a Radioshack Pro-404 (I think).

First off would the BC75XLT be a upgrade to that? Is it easy to program? Can I program it through the software? Just really any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Is this a good scanner worth the money? I will be using this for police, fire, etc.

Thanks for any feedback!!

Depending on where you live, it probably won't work at all for your intended purpose. Many police, fire, and EMS have transitioned to digital trunked systems, and cannot be received at all by analog-only scanners like the BC75XLT. You'll probably need something more like the HP-1, HP-2, 436HP or 536HP series of scanners to listen. Unfortunately, they are much more expensive.

My zip is 52060 (Maquoketa, Iowa) in Jackson Co. Ive just been looking for something cheap for now until I can save up more money to buy the 436HP.
