I am monitoring a Motorola Type IIi Hybrid system. The BC780 displays talkgroup IDs like 14336, 60160, 1024, etc. However, I CANNOT figure out how to convert this number to the talkgroups listed on this site. Can anyone help with a formula?

Thanks.

I think what you need to do since you are monitoring a system that is both type I and Type IIi, you will see both types of talkgroups. Using the menu button on the 780 select a plan, you will have to play with the plans till they show the talkgroups that you want. You can also put it in as a Type I system and that should give you and idea. Remember though a "HYBRID SYSTEM" is on that uses Type I and Type II talkgroups and usually indicates that they are switching to a full TYPE II system and deal away with the Hybrid.

Hope this helps...

If its a hybrid system you program the bank as type 1 800 and set the fleet map for the system. Then you will see both type 1 and type 2 ids.
Type 1 will be like 201-01, 201-04.
Type 2 will be like 1668, 1712.

Thanks guys, that helps a lot. I didn't realize a Type IIi could include Type I and just assumed it was Type II. Now what I see on the display makes more sense.

This is the fleetmap for the system:
Type B0 B1 B2 B3 B4 B5 B6 B7
Mot M M M M C 2 J J
TT S12 S12 S12 S12 S3 S0 S10 S10

Since this doesn't match any of the preset fleetmaps, I programmed the user defineable one. The one strange thing is the BC780 only let me enter the sizes for blocks 0,2,4,5,6,7 - not 1 or 3. At any rate, I think it's working, because I now see talkgroups that match what's on here...

One good way to check anything on a split system is use map#8. All of type I should come up correct. The hard part is figuring which is type I and which is type II. Good Luck

Thanks, that's good to know for the future. In this case, the Fleet Map was documented and came from this site. This brings up another question. From what I posted above, the System Fleet Map is:

Type B0 B1 B2 B3 B4 B5 B6 B7
Mot M M M M C 2 J J
TT S12 S12 S12 S12 S3 S0 S10 S10

I figured out that Type=Block, and TT=The Size Code. What is Mot (M, C, 2, J)? I am assuming these are Motorola codes of some sort, but they don't factor into the programming for the BC780...?

You are correct. Mot is the motorola bank codes and not used in the scanner.
You want to use the "TT" Trunk Tracker codes which is the second line. Also if your using control channel mode with only the four control frequencies loaded into the scanner be sure to set the bank to control chan only and set the band plan. Most likely will be plan 1, but not sure you will have to look at the ending 3 numbers of each freq. and figure that out. It is in the manual.

I've actually done that before and it's not too bad to set up. Anyway, this thread got me light-years ahead with my monitoring of a Type IIi hybrid system. Some basic explanation always helps. :D Thanks again.

Size code 12 consumes two blocks thus the programmer in the scanner skipped to 2 then 4 then 5, 6 and 7. BTW, Size code 13 consumes 4 blocks and 14 takes all blocks.

Nice, thanks for clarifying. I now see where it kinda says that on page 74...but when you're trying to assimilate it all for the first time, some details get lost!

Set I-Call on in your trunked bank. I Program Scan List 10 as I-Call and program 700000 as the Talkgroup ID. Then include Scan List 10 during ID SCAN. This procedure will activate any I-Call, but will actually indicate the ID using the comm. If in ID SEARCH of course, all will be scanned.
