Ok, this is a first for me. I have a spare scanner (780XLT) sitting on my shack desk. I have channels programmed with pl/dpl tones. When I connect any back of the set telescopic indoor antenna, the squelch opens up, even though the squelch knob is set high. I remove the antenna and all goes silent. I have no other electronics on in the room. I move the radio to other rooms and no change. Anyone ever have that happen?

Two thoughts...

Are you using the original P/S or an aftermarket one? If aftermarket maybe it's noisy.
Is the squelch mode set to "CSQ" or "Tone SQ"?

BINGO! it was the after market wall wart. I hooked it up to a dedicated power supply and the problem is gone. It’s shorter in cable length so I used it to save on space or long cable runs. Totally slipped my mind to check the wall wart..🙄

Thank you very much!

You're very welcome!

Now put it in "Tone SQ" mode to take advantage of the tones you entered in.
