BC780XLT display messed up?

Hello,
I have a Uniden BC780XLT. Sometimes when I turn it on, I get audio only and no display (thought it lights up). Sometimes the display is scrambled. If any of these 2 occurs, I have to hit the scanner a few times and it returns to normal or if i turn it off for a little bit and back on its fine. Whats wrong with this this scanner?

Sounds like the connector on the display isn't making good contact. If you're careful you can open the scanner up, pull the connector off the display (or take the display out of the connector, depending on which one is mounted how) and put it back on. That should cure it, at least for a long while.

Yea, it probably is, especially if it uses a zebra strip connector. I'm not sure how it goes together since I've never opened mine but LCD's are usually not much fun to mess with.

The good thing is they usually charge a $50 flat fee. So, I supposed you could give it a try and if you bugger it up real bad you could flat rate it.

It could also be an edge connector, or the cable could be fixed to the display and have an IDC connector at the other end. Or something else entirely.

If you can hold steady enough to take out the screws holding the cabinet you should be able to see what's what and decide for yourself.
