Can someone explain the signal strength meter system to me on the Uniden BC780XLT? It seems to not really correlate to the strength of incoming signals audio clarity wise, and it often displays signal strength on a channel with no transmission on it.... how is that possible?

Thanks

While I don't have a 780, when I see the s-meter dancing with no signal present, that usually means I've got an overload condition going on somewhere, usually FM broadcast, 152/462 pagers, NOAA weather etc.

Maybe scan around with the attenuator on globally, and see what might be some likely culprits. Even if the offending signals are not breaking through outright, you may be suffering a bit of desense.

The s meter on the 780xlt can be adjusted by means of an internal trimmer pot if one wishes it to be a little tighter? :)
