I want to use the 780 for listening to Mil-Air and civil air but 500 channels is not enough. By doing the memory mod I could use one "folder" for civil air only and the other 2 for Mil-Air. I figure that this mod is cheaper than buying a 780 on E-Bay.
Any input is appreciated.

One concern I would have is that the 'extra' banks might not be addressable by software; programming the 'extra' banks (1000 channels) would be a royal pain in the xxx
So that leaves a software solution; there is at least 1, though it ain't pretty...
Scan Pro's software is not something I would normally recommend to anyone, but their 10000 frequency scan lists is the lone jewel in the rough.
I tested their 895 and 245 software, and it does work, after a fashion. Heck for USD20, you get what you pay for...

The other possibility is, at best, a kludge for the 780. It MIGHT work, given that the 780 and the 895 share many, though not all, of the same firmware commands for conventional scanning. The software is called

If you do decide to try the demo, please keep in mind - set it up as if you owned an 895. My review has full directions and warnings about the gotchas. It too allows you to create huge frequency lists, and has good - though not as good as they could have been - logging and recording abilities.
I tested this software under 98SE; I don't have an XP machine. If you find it doesn't work under XP, slap it into compatibility mode. I am using it during the Inauguration, recording and monitoring over 200 different milair frequencies, and it's worked without a major hitch.
