BC780XLT Volume Won't Turn Down

I have a BC780XLT mounted in my truck. I went to the store today and everything was working fine. I turned off the scanner while I went in the store and turned it back on when I got back in the truck.

Now the volume is VERY loud even when the volume is turned all the way down. When you turn the volume up it does get louder but it won't turn down very low.

The scanner was connected to a Ratshack amplified speaker so I unplugged the speaker to see if that was the problem. The audio is still very loud coming from the scanner so it is an internal problem with the scanner.

Does anybody have any ideas what the problem could be before I try to find a shop or send it to Uniden for repair.

Sounds like the Volume control went. Either that or it could be a cold solder joint to the control knob. Loud volume is better than no volume. No volume could mean it is something more serious.
