A good friend of mine just picked up this radio for a SONG. He is new to the Scanner thing and programming this unit seems to be very technical way over his head.

He lives in York Region and borders on Metro Toronto ( Ontario, Canada )

if anybody in this area has this scanner and would be nice enough to share the Data files they have it would make his life way easier.

I know he has the Butel package but 780 version does not link to Radio Ref databases..

Now now don't be snobbish...we all had to start somewhere....

ProScan does support the 780 and also supports connecting to the database. One of the few 780 programs that does, frankly.

These articles from our wiki should help him get started - note that anything in blue and/or underlined is a link

You'd get more help if you had posted this in the Eastern Canada forum.

There's also a lot of files on Scanont which is available through Yahoo groups.

If memory serves, WebCatcher (in that software) just copied frequencies, not things like alpha tags, PLs, inputs and so on 73 Mike

Not as tedious as typing each tag/ID/ect., but I have copied from a screen and pasted into a 3rd party application to manipulate the information then copied that information and pasted in the appropriate column in ARC780. Not the best approach, but is workable lacking data files in the correct format for your area.
