I just received a beep alert when an officer pressed his emergency button by accident and the display flashed "Emergency" on the screen. I never saw this before. Has it always been like that? I just updated to v3.60.

Was it an MDC1200 ID (Would sound like http://www.kb9ukd.com/digital/mdc1200.wav).
If so it would be rather intresting because that would be an awesome feature.
No, it is a series of beeps generated by the scanner along with "Emergency" displayed on the screen. It was on an Edac system and I have heard the beeps before, but never saw the message displayed before now.

My 796 has always done this. Actually, I only saw this once, when an officer hit his emergency trigger button. I think I remember an associated number or id.

The 796 has always recognized an EMER call on an EDACS system. It only works on EDACS, not Motorola trunking systems.
My 996 does this, I was playing with the settings one day and got curious so I pressed my emergency button "accidently" ;-) on my MCS2000 and it did the same beep once that my Motorola Centracom gold elite console does multiple times at work when a emergency button triggers.
Oh and it was on a Moto type II system. I also had my da try it on a P25 system with the same result
